We live in an era when almost everything around us is called "smart". We have a smartphone in our pockets, a smartwatch on our wrists, we live in a "smart" home which is located in a "smart" city. In the 21.st century the term 'smart' (which comes, by the way, with multiple traditional original meanings: 1. 'stylish', 2. 'intelligent' - to make the whole matter more complicated) has undergone a semantic change. Today something is called 'smart' basically if it provides in addition something different along with the original purpose. For example, if a watch which is to inform us about the time, shows our heart rate or blood pressure too, the watch becomes a smartwatch, regardless of the quality of the additional information. Although the concept of 'smart' subconsciously suggests something of a higher quality ('intelligent'), in practice this is rarely the case. Today 'smart' things most of th times bring us only quantitive improvements, quality is a secondary issue.
CardWare's mission is to stop the demotion of the term 'smart'.
Our idea of the 'smart' includes the following frames of reference:
- There are no 'smart gadgets' only 'smart systems'.
- A smart system consists of i) a network of nodes ('gadgets'), ii) a communication system, iii) a central database and iv)the audio-visual interface to human users.
- The additional quality is achieved by data analysis/decision making and a two-way online communication with the network nodes.
